Front & York

Brooklyn, New York

Front & York pays homage to the industrial and historic character of DUMBO, a vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood of restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries anchored by the waterfront Brooklyn Bridge Park. Our NYC studio designed this beautiful apartment for a family with two children. +

The goal was to maximize the cozy setting of the living, kitchen, and dining areas to work for the family of four, add more amenities, and create a fresh new look for their interiors that were limited by a modest amount of square footage.

To overcome the design challenges around space, a custom sectional was added to create enough seating to accommodate their lifestyle, allowing maximum seating without crowding the room. The son's bedroom was outfitted with a custom Murphy bed to have it up during the day, giving him much more room to move around, use his desk, and enjoy the beautiful views while studying. To accommodate the daughter's wishes for fairy lighting, we added an entire wall of them behind her bed to send the glow across the room at night.

To maximize storage, plenty of cabinets were added in the kitchen under the island for pots and pans, and a custom bar to help hold more glassware and allow entertaining with ease. They also commissioned custom master bath and bedroom storage units, as well as one in the living room, to house the TV and some decorative items, as well as lower storage. The tub in the powder room was removed to create another closet, again using the space wherever possible. A beautiful custom bath was designed with a tub and glass shower unit, creating a spacious and luxurious appeal.

And finally, to highlight the amazing views from the windows, we introduced glowing drapery with special fascias built with LED downlights and unique custom light fixtures throughout.
